Valentine’s Day in Paris 2014 will be the ideal time to stroll hand in hand through some of the city’s most enchantingly amorous settings. The Pont des Arts, a pedestrian bridge spanning the gently flowing Seine, was originally built at the very beginning of the 19th century, the first iron bridge in Paris. From here the view is so special it has become almost an open air studio for artists and photographers, and a trysting place for lovers.
Le Mur des Je T’Aime, the ’I Love You’ Wall, in Montmartre’s Place des Abbesses, is a wall built not to divide, but to bring people together in peace and reconciliation. It bears 311 declarations of love in 250 languages. A place of quiet contemplation, it shows that essentially the language of love is the same in every tongue.
Atop the hill of Montmartre stands one of the city’s best loved monuments. The Sacre Coeur church commands a panoramic view from this highest point of Paris as its calcite whitened walls gleam like a beacon of hope. The Roman-Byzantine architecture is glorious and inspiring and it is a place to lift up your heart and make you appreciate all you have.
